Urban Farmhouse
Urban and rural, vintage and modern merge in this top-to-bottom renovation of an 1890s farmhouse in Minneapolis.
The first floor reuses existing trim and weathered flooring arrayed around a wood stove for an efficient and cost-effective heat source. The staircase links upstairs and down, visually and physically, with a cascade of maplewood tread and risers. A modern palette prevails upstairs, with an airy, open design, bamboo flooring and skylights that generously illuminate the space. Old salvaged cabinet doors are built into new maple plywood frames to create a delightful interplay of old and new.
