M & M ADDITION

This client came to ALM Design Studio seeking more space in anticipation of their first child. Beyond creating an addition to their 1909 Minneapolis home, we seized the opportunity to make the house greener and more efficient.

The expansion seamlessly integrated an attic bedroom, a first floor bath and a screened porch into the existing structure, down to the finishes and trim. We made smaller improvements to the efficiency of the main entryway and mud room as well.

Every effort was made to minimize the impact of the new construction. We used concrete with high fly-ash content. We sourced only sustainably forested wood for framing and sheathing and selected local lumber for the trim and flooring. Low VOC finishes and water saving plumbing fixtures were used. Finally, high r-value insulation was added to give the home a major efficiency boost.
