High Line Competition

As part of a competition that attracted attention from around the world, we created master plan for New York City’s High Line, a disused section of elevated railway on Manhattan’s western riverfront.

Created with designers Bob Ganser, Aaron Parker and Peter Vevang, our proposal envisioned the High Line as a natural and historical landmark that would spur the greening of Manhattan. Instead of attempting to tame or reverse the wildness that had taken over the site after years of neglect, our plan preserved the High Line as an industrial ruin returning to nature.

The proposal included ideas for easy pedestrian access to the site from the riverfront and a street-level marketplace beneath the viaduct that would promote community vitality within and around this unique green space.
