Split-Level Jacket
A 1970s era home was in desperate need of repairs and maintenance. We saw this as an opportunity to improve the overall energy efficiency and durability of the home while at the same time creating a more humane and textured exterior.
A greatly improved insulation and air-tightness strategy was employed throughout. Walls were sheathed with EPS insulation and a new “rain-screen” cedar siding was installed. New triple-glazed windows replaced the existing rotten and damaged windows. In addition, the roof was air-sealed with 2” of spray-foam and reinsulated with blow-in insulation.
A new ground-source heat-pump heating and cooling system was also installed along with a Heat Recovery Ventilator to ensure a healthy indoor environment. The owners have seen a remarkable increase in indoor thermal comfort and air quality as well as significant reductions to their energy bills.
